Game Session Report 2/21/08
We had a small turn out but, played a large number of games. Roll Call: John, Kenton, Michael, Mischa.
On the table: Mamma Mia!, California, Aquadukt, Uptown, 10 Day in the USA, Trendy and Pitch 6.
Mamma Mia!
I arrived early and joined Kenton and John for a game of Mamma Mia! I had just learned how to play and the game was new to John and Kenton. I took the lead in round one filling three orders to Kenton and John's single order. In round two John started catching on. He filled three orders to my two. In the final round I managed to hang on by tying John. Final scores Michael 7, John 6 and Kenton 4.
California
Mischa had not arrived yet so we started a quick game of California. John caught on fast again edging me out 32 to 31. Kenton took third with 23.
Aquadukt
Micsha brought the game Aquadukt which I was anxious to play. In our game John had a string of bad luck losing several house. However John was able to place some good wells and canals winning him the game. Final scores: John 32, Michael 30, Mischa 28 and Kenton 27.
Uptown
I literally received Uptown minutes before we play it. The game is really an abstract game played on 9 X 9 grid (81 squares). Five tiles are draw by each player from their supply of twenty seven. Players take turns playing tiles and drawing new ones. The game ends when all players have four tiles remaining. The object of the game is to link your tiles together and have the fewest groups of tiles. Capturing another player's tile is allowed but splitting their group is forbidden. The tie breaker goes to the one who captured the fewest tiles. In our game both John and I had two groups. I had captured five tiles to his six so I won the game. Mischa had 3 groups followed by Kenton's 4 groups.
10 Days in the USA
This rummy style game as become a regular with our group. John was the first to travel across the USA in 10 days winning the game.
Trendy
It has been a while since the Westbank Gamers have made the fashion scene. Trendy was to change that tonight. We started the game by being very cooperative. I don't think one out card was played in the first round. Scores were high in the first round Kenton - 39, John - 36 Mike - 33 and Mischa -31. The second round was a different story with no one scoring over 23. Final Scores: Kenton - 61, John - 59, Mischa 54 and Mike - 48.
Pitch 6
This was a new trick taking game to all of us. It took me a while to get the hang of bidding so I wound up in the hole after the first hand. I managed to fight my way back to positive territory but John had managed to get a perfect score in round two giving him the win. It was late so we only played to 8 points (not the recommended 12). Final Scores: John - 8, Mike - 3, Kenton - 3 and Mischa - 1. |
